CRPH Dental Specialty Center
Chiangrai Prachanukroh Dental Specialty Center is operated by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). Most people usually perceived government hospitals as outdated with low quality of services, but not so many people know that some of government hospitals especially Chiangrai Prachanukroh hospital is staffed with exceptional doctors/ dentists and is one of the best equipped hospitals in Thailand.
Due to the government’s strategic plan to capitalise on the market development of medical tourism, and to the growing numbers of private dental centers in Chiangrai, Chiangrai Prachanukroh Dental Specialty Center was subjected to be renovated in order to create better atmosphere, to gain more trust and to attract higher numbers of upper-class and foreign patients.
PLANG GUY studio has completed the renovation of Chiangrai Prachanukroh Dental Specialty Center. The characteristics of ‘tooth’ has been introduced in the design. Its existing building structure was kept untouched. Freight Elevators were added. Due to the large amount of sun that hits the south-facing façade, expanded metal sheets and aluminum composite sheets laser-cut in pattern of deformative tooth plans were chosen to provide shading and natural ventilation, giving the dental center a distinctive facade.
Opposite side located the city park; therefore, the front of the building is linked both visually and physically by windows and a new double skin façade in order to balance views, light and a connection to the outdoors with the privacy required in the building. Nonetheless, it also creates a dramatic shading phenomenon throughout the day.
Total internal spaces were reconfigured with a complete look of modern materials and architectural design elements. White and blue colors refer to the identity of dentistry while the touch of wood reduces the tense atmosphere in this dental center. Values of blue color used in each floor help distinguishing the floor levels and its functions. In treatment rooms, ceilings are decorated with patterns of deformative tooth plans.
Chiangrai Prachanukroh Dental Specialty Center demonstrates the architects’ enthusiasm for innovative design with technology-driven urban structures. It successively raises up attention and attraction from targeted users and has completely changed social’s perception of government hospital environments.
